COATS TAKES CARE OF ITS EMPLOYEES

Saude

We employ and serve more than 17,000 people in approximately 50 countries around the world. The health and safety (H&S) of our employees is our # 1 priority in everything we do.

Based on the belief that all injuries can be prevented, our focus is on establishing a preventative safety culture. In 2019, we launched our new strategy called: Travel without accidents!

How we work?
We operate globally through a digital incident management tool. The data reported guides us to potential risks at work and allows us to act before they occur. This improvement action became the foundation of our success: in 2019, we completed 46,377 reported alert actions, which directly contributed to a 20% reduction in our injury rates compared to 2018.

Training is another important contributor to our safety culture. On average, each employee received 29 hours of safety-related training in 2019 worldwide.

Our proactive approach to health and safety became a reality in 2019 during the opening week “Zero Accident Trip!” The week generated great levels of participation with activities that took place in more than 24 countries and more than 200 conversations in our corporate social media tool Yammer. This event has been incorporated into our annual calendar.

Our results from the 2019 Health and Safety Environment Survey show that we are on track to establish the desired safety culture. 62% of our units scored better compared to 2018 and our overall results increased to 99% of all units scoring better than the industry benchmark.

We have nine OHSAS 18001 certified sites and three new ISO 45001 certified sites. Our goal is for all of our factories to reach the latter by 2025.

We believe that security should extend beyond our doors and therefore we take transportation security very seriously as well. To support this, we continue to offer defensive driving courses, driving lessons, and driver awareness campaigns. Many units now loan helmets to motorcycle passengers and, when necessary, provide transportation for employees to reduce travel-related risks.

In addition to safety, it is also important to take care of the well-being of our employees. In 2019, we launched our Sustainability Strategy and well-being is an important part of our social pillar. Places like the US and China have focused on building trust and participation in sports activities.

99% of our units performed better than the industry benchmark in the Health and Safety Survey.
